Historical Plant Lists I'm debating how to set this up to help people. If you use this page and would like different reference points, email me and let me know what would be most helpful. For now I will set it up with the dates plants were introduced to Britain under the rough categories of early gardens, Tudor and Elizabethan, Stuart, Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian and try to keep them all on one very long page so you can compare time periods. General introduction to local gardens would be several years after a plant first arrived at a private estate, at Kew or one of the nurseries and some of these plants were known from much earlier times but had to be re introduced (opium poppies for example).Fashion was also involved, and plants introduced in a particular time were not always fashionable for that period. These introduction dates refer to the particular species, not modern cultivars. Remember you can include plants introduced before, but not after the date of your historical depiction. For example Lilium candidum, the Madonna lily, dates back to early times, but Lilium longiflorum, the Easter lily, only arrived in Britain in 1794 and Llilium regale, the regal lily, doesn't appear until 1903.
